Our story · Est. Texas

We couldn't tell you where our meat came from. So we built a company that could.

Backyard Butchers buys whole animals from a short list of Texas family ranches, breaks them down by hand, and freezes them once. Then we sell them off a red truck at pop-up markets nationwide and ship the rest straight to your door.

A word from our founders

Why we do it the hard way

Why we started2:40

Cutting out the middleman to get families better meat for less.

We started Backyard Butchers because we were tired of paying restaurant prices for grocery-store beef nobody could vouch for. No name on the ranch, no idea how long it sat in a case, no one to call if it let you down at dinner.

So we did it the hard way instead. We shook hands with the ranches. We hired the butchers. We put our name on the truck. More than a million families have let us handle dinner since, and that trust is the only thing we're really selling.

Good meat shouldn’t cost a fortune

Somewhere along the way, honest cuts got buried under brokers, distributors, and retail markups — each one taking a slice, none of them raising a single animal. By the time the beef reached a family’s table, the price had doubled and the story was gone.

So we cut them all out. We buy whole animals straight from the ranch and sell them straight to you, which is the only reason we can put restaurant-quality beef within reach of a normal grocery budget.

We buy from ranches we can drive to. If we can’t visit it, we don’t sell it.

02

We’ll come to you — or ship to your door

You’ll find our red trucks at pop-up markets across the country, handing families the same cuts we’d put on our own table. It started close to home in Texas and hasn’t stopped moving since.

And if we haven’t made it to your town yet, we’ll ship your box straight to your door — so a better cut of meat is never more than a few days away, wherever you are.

What we stand for

From our family to yours isn't a tagline

It's the whole reason we do this the slow way. Three things we refuse to cut corners on, no matter how big we get.

  • 01

    Quality, not mystery

100% American-raised beef, USDA graded Select, Choice and Prime. Every cut is trimmed by hand, flash-frozen once, and vacuum-sealed so nothing is lost between the cutting room and your kitchen.

  • 02

    Ranchers we can name

We partner with Texas families who raise their animals slower and treat wellness as the job, not a marketing line. If we can’t stand behind how an animal was raised, it doesn’t go in a box.

  • 03

A fair price, and then some

Cutting out the middleman lets us sell restaurant-quality meat near wholesale. It also lets us give back — we’re proud partners of Texas Children’s Hospital.

For the price of what we got, it was a good deal, and the boyfriend is very picky about prices. We’ll be ordering more in the future!
